Taraji P. Henson’s New Man is Allegedly Already Attached

*Taraji P. Henson has a new man and the love is on display.
According to ETonline, the “Empire” star and former Indianapolis Colts player Kelvin Hayden Jr. were spotted holding hands on the beach in Miami.
(Scroll down to see them together.)
The arrival of Hayden comes after Henson recently detailed her specifics regarding a relationship with the opposite sex.
“I want a man who is not caught up into what I do for a living. I’m not that girl on the screen. I’m none of those characters, I am me,” the 45-year-old Oscar nominee told ET. “I need safety somewhere to go where I don’t have to be Hollywood, where I can take my wig off and you gonna love me and say, ‘Baby, you are beautiful.’”
Taraji didn’t stop there!
“I need you to make me laugh,” she added. “You don’t have to cook but you can help me with cleaning. I need you to be a leader. A leader where I don’t have to be so strong all the time!”
Although this looks really good and it’s nice to see Henson involved in a certified romance after a great year of success playing Cookie on “Empire,” it looks like Hayden may be too good to be true. TheJasmineBrand references a letter from one of The Shade Room readers, who alleges the 32-year-old NFL free agent already has someone special in his life.
The following is the message the site received:
Dear TSR, A lot of hearts are getting broken tonight but it won’t be in vain. Women need to know about men like Kelvin. Me and MY friend were trying to understand why her man Kelvin was posted up in a pic with Taraji…but before we could reconcile what happened we see Kelvin had another girl other than Cookie claiming him on The Shade Room! My friend has been in a SOLID and seemingly happy relationship with Kelvin for 8 YEARS and she’s from Chi-town. Oh and WE have receipts. He took her to Costa Rica not too long ago, before that they went to Europe! She just posted a pic of him 3 weeks ago on IG!
At this time, no word has come from Henson or Hayden regarding the woman’s allegations.
The sight of Henson and Hayden together looks to be the exception to her comments about how her success affects her love life.
“I think the more successful you get, the more intimidated they get,” Henson told ET’s Kevin Fraser. “The more they pull away, because they feel like I am not approachable – or they are afraid to approach me.”
Nevertheless, Henson did admit that despite feeling too busy sometimes for a relationship she is “ready for it.”
“The person has to be willing to deal with my schedule. …[It’s] all over the place,” the entertainer said.

'Empire' star Taraji P. Henson spotted holding hands with the NFL's Kelvin Hayden

Looks like Cookie's got a new man: Taraji P. Henson may be dating football player Kelvin Hayden.
The bikini-clad "Empire" star was photographed Monday holding hands with the NFL player while vacationing in Miami, according to People. She wore a printed Pucci bikini and he wore red swim trunks during their stroll, as seen in paparazzi photos that hit the Web on Monday.

Hayden, 32, currently a free agent, has played for the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts.
The single mom, 45, and Hayden had a romantic dinner date at Prime 112 on Sunday, Us Weekly said, with sources noting that they were "affectionate."
Neither camp has publicly confirmed the romance, and Henson, who was recently named USA Today's Entertainer of the Year, hasn't posted about her Miami getaway on social media.
Her rep did not immediately respond to The Times' request for comment.

The Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated star told Harper's Bazaar in August that she was single, but offered up what she looks for in a man.
"He is funny, has personality, he doesn't take himself too seriously," she said. "He needs to be confident in who he is, confident to let me be who I am. And let me shine, you know? My light is only going to enhance his light."
In January, the breakout star also lamented to Wendy Williams that men "don't court anymore."
"Take me out to dinner! Say you're gonna pick me up at a certain time! Dating should be an event, you know? You like the guy, so you want to get pretty for him, so you spend all day, and the spark [ignites]. Whatever happened to that?"

Taraji P. Henson Dating NFL Star Kelvin Hayden: Empire’s Cookie Goes Public With New Beau!

Taraji P. Henson Dating NFL Star Kelvin Hayden: Empire's Cookie Goes Public With New Beau!
Taraji P.Henson has a new boyfriend and the Empire star has been showing him off as they vacation in Miami. Henson is dating NFL star Kelvin Hayden. The new couple has been seen walking hand-in-hand on the beach and out to dinner together during the romantic trip. There is no doubt that 45-year-old Taraji is letting everyone know that she’s settled down. Henson looks very happy with her new hunk.
Taraji doesn’t seem to mind that her much younger man is basically unemployed right now. Kelvin Hayden used to play cornerback for the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears. The 32-year-old athlete is listed as a free agent right now. So instead of chasing a playoff spot in the race for the Super Bowl, Hayden is chasing his new girlfriend Taraji P. Henson around South Beach.
Taraji had a pretty amazing year – aside from a hiccup back in March when her 20-year-old son, Marcel, accused officers of racial profiling, which turned out to be untrue after Taraji got involved. Henson handled the situation with class, though, and apologized for herself and for her son.
The Empire star went on to be named the USA Today entertainer of the year. Everyone loves Taraji’s character Cookie Lyon in Empire and she certainly earned the title. Even Taraji admits she’s had a pretty amazing year.
The actress tweeted, “WOOOOOOOW!!!! Thank you @usatoday so honored!!! #WhatAYear #MoreToCome.” Was Taraji P. Henson hinting about her new romance in her tweet acknowledging the entertainer of the year honor? Just based on the sneak peek we got of Taraji and Kelvin together, he looks like a keeper.
Henson told Wendy Williams earlier this year that she wanted a real man to romance her. It’s unclear if Taraji was secretly dating Kelvin Hayden at the time of the interview or not, but it almost seems like she’s describing him. Taraji went on and on about the specifics in what characteristics would make her happy.
Maybe this is the one for Taraji, who is notoriously picky about whom she dates. Hayden does seem to make Taraji happy. If that pesky little detail about his employment doesn’t bother her, then we wish Henson the best with her new boyfriend.

Hailey Baldwin Is Justin Bieber’s Latest Fling — What Happened To Kourtney Kardashian?

Justin Bieber has been spotted looking cozy with Hailey Baldwin. Looks like the Biebs has officially moved on from Kourtney Kardashian.
The 21-year-old Canadian popstar has been sharing countless photos of himself with Hailey Baldwin in Anguilla. They’ve been seen on vacation with Bieber’s dad and his younger siblings. The Biebs has reportedly been hooking up with Kourtney Kardashian for the past four months, but she reportedly banned the singer’s name from being said on Christmas, according to a Life & Style magazine report.
Justin and Hailey first sparked dating rumors when they were seen taking this rather sexy and cozy photo together. But the singer shared a flirty video prior to sharing the steamy photo above, which shows him giving the model a wet willy. Justin captioned the cute vid, “She thought we were taking a photo.”

This isn’t the first time that the Biebs and Baldwin have sparked dating rumors. They previously sparked the dating rumors earlier this year. It was also around the same time that Bieber and Kendall Jenner were also sparking their own set of dating rumors, causing some gossip blogs to wonder if the three friends were involved in a threesome. But Baldwin slammed those nasty rumors on Twitter.
Hey @HollywoodLife I think u guys are absolutely disgusting. U should really learn to leave teenagers be and stop writing so much garbage.
— Hailey Baldwin (@haileybaldwin) May 13, 2015
In his latest interview with Billboard, Justin admitted that he dated Kendall although it was never serious, and that he is just “good friends” with Hailey. In fact, she is “one of my best friends in the entire world.” But that’s not all that Justin had to say about the blonde beauty. “She’s fricking awesome. She’s got the sweetest soul.”
But this sudden coziness between the friends is why Kendall asked Hailey to end Justin’s relationship with Kourtney.
“Kendall has been pressuring Hailey to talk to Justin about Kourtney, and how much drama it’s causing between her and Scott. Kendall thinks Kourtney and Scott still have a chance, but not as long as Justin’s in the picture. She’s hoping Hailey can knock some sense into his head.”
Fortunately for her, Hailey agrees. She’s now making it her personal mission to make the singer forget all about Kourtney, according to Hollywood Life‘s source.
“Hailey is doing her best to convince Justin that hooking up with Kourtney is not in his best interest. She’s been telling him that it would be one thing if Kourtney did not have any kids, but the fact that she has three young children should be taken seriously. She thinks Justin needs to take Kourtney’s kids’ feelings into consideration.”
Hailey Baldwin isn’t the only one who’s been making headlines for her romantic life. Her friend Kendall Jenner has also been away on a romantic vacation with One Direction’s Harry Styles. The famous exes were also spotted in Anguilla on Dec. 29, in the photos shared by E! News. Harry and Kendall first dated back in 2013, just months after his split from Taylor Swift. The exes have been spotted out together many times, but this is the first time the two looked like a couple.

It’s unclear whether or not Hailey and Kendall met up so that they could have romantic double dates on the island. It certainly should be an interesting New Year’s Eve vacation for these stars, especially since Taylor will be premiering her new video “Out of the Woods,” which is reportedly about her relationship with the British heartthrob.
Meanwhile, Taylor’s BFF (and Justin Bieber’s ex) Selena Gomez has been reportedly dating 1D’s Niall Horan. Can you keep up?
What are your thoughts on Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin? Do you think the two are just friends, or that they’re more than just friends? Sound off below in the comments section.

Meanwhile the pop star and Hailey, 19, took a break from sunbathing to enjoy some quality one-on-one time, which was captured in a very brief clip by Instagram user First World Problem Solutions.
Justin looked relaxed as he and Hailey took a breather from the great outdoors for a quiet moment at the bar.

Justin has also shared several images of himself with pal Hailey over the course of their getaway.
Last month, the Canadian-born musician gushed about Hailey, Kendall Jenner, and Gigi Hadid to i-D: 'They are literally the sweetest girls. They have the best hearts. They care about me in the same way I care about them.'
He added: 'When people say mean things about them, I get defensive and when it happens to me they get defensive.'
Last year, Hailey talked about Justin to E! News. She said: 'I've known him since I was so young - since I was like 13 - and we've just been good friends over the years.'

Kourtney Kardashian's Nine Best Instagram Posts From 2015 Include Scott Disick, Kids

After nine years together, he at least made the top nine. Kourtney Kardashian shared her nine best Instagram posts from 2015 on Monday, December 28, and her ex Scott Disick was featured in one of the photos.
Kardashian, 36, posted her nine most liked Instagram photos and shared the same quote posted by her mom, Kris Jenner, on Sunday. "Whatever happened over this past year, be thankful for where it brought you," the eldest Kardashian daughter wrote, alongside the collage of her top pics. "Where you are is where you're meant to be."
2015's Babies of the Year
All of the reality star's most popular photos feature her three kids — Mason, 6, Penelope, 3, and Reign, 12 months — with Disick. "313,436,035 Likes to 672 posts in 2015," the Instagram statistic read, while Kourt added, "Thank you for your likes!” The social media tool is called the 2015 Best Nine, and it generates the statistics.
In the bottom left corner, however, is a snap of her ex partner embracing their oldest son, Mason. The photo of Disick was posted on his 32nd birthday on May 26. At the time, Kardashian accompanied the adorable father-son photo with a heartfelt message, garnering more than 1 million likes for that post alone. "Happy happy birthday to my handsome, hilarious, sweet soul mate," she wrote at the time.
Us Weekly confirmed in July that the parents of three had split after Disick was photographed cozying up to his ex-girlfriend Chloe Bartoli in the South of France. As witnessed in recent episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, the moment devastated Kardashian and resulted in their breakup after nearly a decade together.
Kardashian has moved on with a steamy (and much younger!) hookup: Justin Bieber. Us Weekly exclusively revealed several weeks ago that Bieber, 21, has been boasting to pals about hooking up with the petite brunette, who is 15 years older.
Watch the video above for more details about Kourtney and Bieber
“Oh, yeah, that’s definitely happening and has been for some time now,” one source told Us of Kardashian and Bieber's fling. “Every time Kourtney and Justin are together they’re extremely flirtatious. They text each other all the time.”

Disick checked into rehab this past fall and spent Thanksgiving with the Kardashian family. However, he wasn't featured in the famous brood's many social media snaps from Christmas, which was held at Kourtney's home in Calabasas, California.
Instead, he posted an image last week from his 2014 summer in the Hamptons with Khloé and Kourtney. "Always miss this hamptons view," he captioned the shot.

See Mike Tyson's Hilarious Hoverboard Fail: 'I'm Too Old For This S–––"

Ouch! Now that's a hoverboard fail.
Mike Tyson has joined thousands of others who are enjoying hoverboards, and like them, his ride didn't end so sweet.
On Tuesday, the former heavyweight champion shared a video on Instagram of him riding everyone's newest favorite toy, and before it's over, the 49-year-old falls off the board, landing on his back with a loud thud.
"#hoverboard #knockout #MikeTysonBreaksBack #imtoooldforthisshit @getcyboard," Tyson captioned the video.
Before his fall, the Hangover star did get some fun in, spinning in circles and traveling a short distance on the hoverboard as he seemingly had the hang of it before losing his balance.
While his slip up may be one of the most popular, Tyson definitely isn't the only one having trouble learning how to ride the motorized skateboard. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, many injuries caused by the popular Christmas gift have been reported.
"We've seen a lot of falls over the holidays," spokesperson for the commission, Patty Davis, told PEOPLE just days after the holiday. "We've seen at least 39 emergency room treated injuries associated with hoverboards" concussions, fractures, contusions, abrasions."
With that long list of wounds, Tyson may want to stay away from his hoverboard for a while.

Hoverboard fail spawns hilarious Mike Tyson 'Punch-Out' meme

The hoverboard fail by Mike Tyson is getting the “Punch-Out” treatment. Earlier this week, the 49-year-old former heavyweight champion posted an Instagram video of himself falling off of a pink hoverboard, and it didn’t take long for the Internet to respond. On Dec. 30, Fox Sports posted video of an edited version of the hoverboard fail featuring Little Mac from the iconic Mike Tyson “Punch-Out” video game. The classic character gives Tyson quite a "punch-out" in the spoof video.

Before he fell off the hoverboard, one of Mike Tyson’s kids said, “Daddy, I don’t want you to fall.” But the boxer lost his balance on the newfangled scooter and fell hard. In the spoof hoverboard video, Little Mac gives Mike Tyson a major “Punch-Out” which sends him falling to the floor.
While Little Mac caused the hoverboard crash in the joke Mike Tyson “Punch-Out” meme, in real life the boxer can’t beat his cartoon video game opponent, either. In a previous interview with TMZ, Tyson revealed he couldn’t even topple Glass Joe, the first boxer in the game. Glass Joe is considered to be the easiest foe in the classic video game. Tyson also admitted that he was a “late bloomer” when it comes to video games, revealing that he didn’t start playing them until 2006. “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out” was released by Nintendo in 1987.
Twenty years after he made his video game debut, Tyson could still use some training – on video games and hoverboards. In addition to the “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out” title, the former champ is the star of Playstation’s “Mike Tyson Boxing” and “Mike Tyson’s Heavyweight Boxing” for Xbox and Playstation 2.

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has made the internet happy as he was caught on video  as he  attempted to ride one of the new hoverboards that were considered a top Christmas gift this season.
Tyson appears to have the hang of it at the beginning until he doesn’t.

That thud you hear is Tyson’s back smacking the floor as he completely wipes out on the board. You even hear his daughter in the background warn him while he is spinning, “Daddy, I don’t want you to fall.”
Tyson hasn’t hit the ground that hard since Kevin McBride knocked him out in 2005.
For those out there who remember the painful hours spent attempting to knock Tyson down and avoid his damaging uppercut, this Vine is for you:

Rob Kardashian Diagnosed with Diabetes after Hospitalization

Rob KardashianINSTAGRAM / Robert Kardashian / @robkardashian
A screengrab from an Instagram post by reality star Rob Kardashian.
Rob Kardashian was not feeling well recently and was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday with a diagnosis of diabetes.
It has been almost two years since Rob Kardashian, 28, started spending his life away from the public eye gaining a lot of weight. On Tuesday, the youngest Kardashian family member was admitted to the hospital where he was diagnosed with diabetes and prescribed with medicine to lower his blood sugar level, according to People.
"Rob had stomach problems over the weekend and didn't feel well. He was at the hospital briefly," an unnamed source told People. "He has to take medicine now to control his blood sugar level."
The source also said Kardashian was advised to consult with a dietician and revise his lifestyle and eating habits. The doctor warned that continuing with his present lifestyle could have detrimental effects on his body, the report relays.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the only male Kardashian sibling has been struggling with depression, low-self esteem, and weight problem. The problems started in 2011 when he became a contestant on "Dancing With the Stars." New Zealand Herald says he was considering getting a gastric bypass to lose weight faster.
Kardashian has since avoided the cameras and has used Instagram as his only window to the public, even going as far as not attending his sister Kim's wedding and other family events. An insider said the family has been trying to help him through various interventions, but none has been successful so far, the report details.
Even his sister Khloe is starting to get exasperated with his issues. In an interview with People in October, the reality star shared that she can only do so much for her brother.
"I've been working on my patience … But I have my moments and I do snap. I've offered to get a chef, I'm like, 'What's your excuse?'" Khoe told People. "But it's not just that. I can't win life for Rob. I have to wait until [he's] ready to do it for himself."
TMZ says Rob Kardashian's recent admission to the hospital and diagnosis of diabetes should serve as a wake-up call for him to focus more on his health in the coming year.

Out of the Spotlight for 2 Years: Inside the Reclusive Life of Rob Kardashian

It's been a difficult time for Rob Kardashian.
The 28-year-old has spent nearly two years away from the cameras, battling depression and gaining more than 100 pounds. And on Tuesday, the youngest – and only brother – of the Kardashian clan was hospitalized, with some reports citing his diagnosis as diabetes.
"Rob had stomach problems over the weekend and didn't feel well. He was at the hospital briefly," a source told PEOPLE. "He has to take medicine now to control his blood sugar level."
"He was also told he needs to rethink his whole lifestyle," the source added. "He needs to see a dietician and change the way he eats. If he doesn't change his lifestyle, he was told that it could have serious consequences."
Despite encouragement from his family, Kardashian has had trouble getting back on his feet.
"Rob is still struggling and it makes the family sad," a source told PEOPLE earlier this month. "He deals with depression, weight issues and low self-esteem, but that's been going on for a long time."
His hardships began a few years after he competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2011. Recently, his most public displays have come by way of his Instagram account.
After a lengthy hiatus from social media, Rob returned in March, posting a photo of Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl, calling sister Kim Kardashian West "the b---- from Gone Girl."
That same month, a source told PEOPLE the famous family tried to stage multiple interventions – some later shown on camera – that failed.
"He is very against therapy and any kind of rehab," the KUWTK production source said. "But his family will continue to push for him to get help until he does."
Rob has also used his return to social media to mark his progress, posting about workouts with his sisters and beach trips.
A Keeping up with the Kardashians source told PEOPLE in September that "Rob has already lost a lot of weight and seems much healthier mentally as well."
But Kardashian isn't just avoiding the spotlight: He's been absent from several family events, including Kim's wedding.
In an interview for her PEOPLE cover story in October, Khloé Kardashian spoke of her attempts to get her little brother – who lives with her – to be more social and healthy.
"I've been working on my patience," the 31-year-old said. "I've been really trying. But I have my moments and I do snap. I've offered to get a chef, I'm like, 'What's your excuse?' But it's not just that. I can't win life for Rob. I have to wait until [he's] ready to do it for himself."
In recent weeks, Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian have both shared sweet Instagram snapshots to encourage the troubled star.
However, the family knows that Rob's journey is all his own.
"It's sad, because he's only wasting his life more and more," Khloé said. "But he has to figure it out for himself. And he has so many people who want to help him."

George Lucas didn’t like ‘retro’ feel of new ‘Star Wars,’ says he sold franchise to ‘white slavers’

It wasn't the movie he was looking for.
"Star Wars" creator George Lucas admits he was disappointed by how similar the franchise's latest installment, "The Force Awakens," is to his original trilogy — and even contended he sold his beloved sci-fi series to "white slavers."
"They wanted to do a retro movie," Lucas said in an interview with Charlie Rose. "I don't like that."
"Every movie, I work very hard to make them different," he continued. "I make them completely different, with different planets and different spaceships, to make it new."

He also called the first six movies his "kids," saying he "sold them to white slavers that take these things and…," before halting the remark and laughing it off, presumably thinking better of it.
Lucas sold his production company Lucasfilm, complete with the "Star Wars" rights, to Disney in October 2012 for more than $4 billion.
The 71-year-old didn't play much of a role in creating the critically-acclaimed new film, though he reportedly offered his ideas for the blockbuster to Disney, which "they decided they didn't want to use."
He added: "They weren't that keen to have me involved anyway."
'STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS,' 'JURASSIC WORLD' PROPEL 2015 DOMESTIC BOX OFFICE TO RECORD $11B
"The Force Awakens" brings back a number of Lucas' original heroes, including Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. But the film also introduces a new cast of characters such as the multi-talented Rey, the stormtrooper-turned-good-guy Finn and the villainous Kylo Ren.
Lucas revealed that it hasn't always been easy letting go of the franchise, even if the sale left with him with more wealth than he could imagine. He added that selling the films has been like going through a breakup, adding that it's best to move on and not keep checking in on what they are up to.
"You have to put it behind you," he said. "It's a very hard thing to do."

George Lucas compares Disney to ‘white slavers’ that bought his children

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been a pretty incredibly success, earning glowing reviews, breaking cinema records, and helping to make 2015 the highest grossing year in US box office history. However, at least one person isn't completely happy with the new film: George Lucas. In an interview with Charlie Rose, the Star Wars creator compares selling rights to the films to selling his kids to "white slavers," and says, regarding the possibility of him helping out with the new movies: "They weren't that keen to have me involved."
Lucas is still conflicted about selling Star Wars
In a fairly wide-ranging interview, Lucas touches on a number of topics, including his competition with Steven Spielberg, the narcissism of directors, and the deep roots of mythology. But, around 45 minutes in, the question of how Lucas feels about Star Wars: The Force Awakens is broached. Here's what he has to say:
The first three movies had all kinds of issues. [Disney] looked at the stories and they said we want to make something for the fans. So I said all I want to do is tell the story of what happened. You know, it started here and it went there. It's all about generations and it's about, you know, the issues of fathers and sons and grandfathers; it's a family soap opera. I mean, ultimately. We call it a space opera, but people don't realize it's actually a soap opera. And it's all about family problems — it's not about spaceships.
So, they decided they didn't want to use those stories. They said they were going to go do their own thing, so I decided, fine, but basically I'm not going to try to... they weren't that keen to have me involved anyway. But at the time I said ... if I get in there, I'm just gonna cause trouble, because they're not gonna do what I want them to do, so. And I don't have the control to do that anymore, and all I would do is muck everything up. So I said, okay, I will go my way, and I'll let them go their way.
And it really does come down to a really simple rule of life, which is when you break up with somebody, the first rule is no phone calls. The second rule, you don't go over to their house and drive by to see what they're doing. The third one is you don't show up at their coffee shop or the thing ... you just say: nope, gone, history — I'm moving forward... Every time you do something like that, you're opening the wound again, and it just makes it harder for you. You have to put it behind you, and it's a very, very, very hard thing to do. But you have to just cut it off and say okay, end of ball game. I got to move on. And everything in your body says, don't, you can't — and these are my kids.
All those Star Wars films ... I loved them, I created them, I'm very intimately involved in them, and I sold them to the white slavers that take these things and uh, and ... [laughs]
Rose never pushes Lucas on this last comment, but it's clear that Lucas still feels conflicted about selling the films. Although he says he's at peace with what happened, he suggests that the style of The Force Awakens isn't to his taste. "[Disney] wanted to do a retro movie," said Lucas. "I don't like that." • Attack of the moans: George Lucas hits out at 'retro' Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars creator George Lucas has criticised the “retro” tone of new episode The Force Awakens, with which he had no creative involvement.
Speaking to US television talk-show host and journalist Charlie Rose, Lucas quipped that he had sold his “kids … to the white slavers that take these things”.
The film-maker, who oversaw both the groundbreaking original Star Wars trilogy, which hit cinemas between 1977 and 1983, and the much-maligned 1999-2005 prequel trilogy, confirmed that studio Disney had not wanted his involvement in the new instalment.

“They wanted to do a retro movie. I don’t like that,” he said. “They weren’t that keen to have me involved anyway, but if I get in there, I’m just going to cause trouble, because they’re not going to do what I want them to do. And I don’t have the control to do that any more, and all I would do is muck everything up. And so I said, ‘OK, I will go my way, and I’ll let them go their way.’”
Lucas defended his vision for the six previous Star Wars films, which he said involved constant innovation. “I worked very hard to make them completely different, with different planets, with different spaceships – you know, to make it new,” he said, pointing out the failure of a number of rival space movies that attempted to repeat the formula in the late 70s and early 80s.

“When Star Wars came out, everyone said, ‘Oh it’s just a silly movie with a bunch of space battles and stuff. It’s not real. There’s nothing behind it.’ And I said … ‘There’s more to it than that. It’s much more complicated than that.’ But nobody would listen,” said Lucas. “So the spaceships and that part of the science fantasy, whatever, got terribly abused. And of course, everybody went out and made spaceship movies. And they were all horrible, and they all lost tons of money.”
The 71-year-old film-maker said he had made his peace with walking away from the long-running space saga, which he sold to Disney for $4.05bn in October 2012 along with the rest of his Lucasfilm production company.
“You do end up with this thing, which is, you know, you gotta live with it,” he said. “People are gonna talk about it and all that kind of stuff. It’s like talking about your divorce or something. It’s just awkward, but it’s not painful.”

Some will find Lucas’s comments surprising as the film-maker appeared at the world and European premieres of The Force Awakens, in Los Angeles and London, earlier this month. Lucas had previously said he felt fans would like JJ Abrams’ movie, but stopped short of signalling his own full approval.
The Force Awakens remains on course to challenge Avatar’s all-time $2.78bn box-office world record. It is currently the ninth highest-grossing film, with $1.22bn, having overtaken Iron Man 3 on Wednesday.
In the US and Canada, The Force Awakens has passed The Dark Knight, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and the original 1977 Star Wars to enter the all-time top five at the North American box office, with receipts of $600.9m. The space opera sequel, which is also tipped to be a part of the 2016 Oscars race, is expected to pass Avatar’s record $760m North American haul as early as this weekend.

Blackhawks columnist confesses love for 'Beautiful – The Carole King Musical'

Without getting into too many details, and without alienating the reader into thinking I'm strange or weird, a nerd, a stalker or all of the above, let's just say I know a lot about the life of Carole King.
I know more than anybody should know, let alone someone who's 29 and was born 15 years after her iconic album "Tapestry" came out. I've seen "Beautiful," the musical that tells the story of her career as a songwriter and singer in the 1960s and early '70s, on Broadway multiple times.
I first heard "Tapestry" when I was 15, after I picked up the CD on a whim for $5.99 at a local Barnes & Noble back where I grew up near Wilkes-Barre, Pa. On first listen, the album grabbed me like no piece of art had before or since. King's percussive piano playing, her everyman (or everywoman) style of vocals and the glorious melodies that flowed out of her combined to stop me in my tracks the first time I heard it. I had to know more about this woman, where she came from and what other music she made.
Of course, I quickly learned she is among the most prolific and revered songwriters in the history of rock 'n' roll and had already compiled a legendary career as a writer before she released "Tapestry."
As an amateur songwriter myself, I spent years scouring eBay to get out-of-print copies of her sheet music so I could play and analyze her writing.
I've noticed how her use of chord structures evolved over the years, from simpler, pop patterns in the early to mid-'60s, to more jazz-oriented, complicated structures in the late '60s and early '70s. I know I'll never come close to matching the simple, intricate beauty of her and Gerry Goffin's music, or that of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, King's friends and rival songwriting team featured in "Beautiful," which is now running at the Oriental Theater (24 W. Randolph St.) through Feb. 21.
"Beautiful" has become a bona fide hit and serves as a great showcase of her immense talent. I work as a sportswriter for the Tribune covering the Blackhawks, but I have been dragging my friends (willingly or not) to see "Beautiful" while it is here in Chicago. Even though sports consume a big portion of my life, I still retain the passion for songwriting and, especially, the music of Mann and Weil and King and Goffin, who was King's first husband and first lyricist. Their relationship forms the crux of "Beautiful." But I'll admit it was a show I was hesitant to see when I bought a ticket to the previews on Broadway over two years ago.
My biggest concern was how loose book writer Douglas McGrath would be with the arc and facts of King's career — or how truthful the subjects of the show would allow him to be.
For the most part, McGrath stayed true to the trajectory of King's life in the 1960s, even the moments King said were initially too painful for her to watch on stage. The casts, both on Broadway and here in Chicago, are impeccable in their portrayals of King, her friends and the artists who sang her songs. And the arrangements have even taken the care to keep some false notes you hear occasionally on "Tapestry" to make the show an authentic soundtrack of King's career.
But like any show, "Beautiful" takes some dramatic license.
For me, it's more notable what the show leaves out than what it includes. At a low point during her marriage to Goffin, King's character says something to the effect of, "Why am I so sure of myself at work, but with Gerry I'm always guessing?"
That would be a theme that extended throughout King's personal life beyond "Tapestry." The show ends with King finding her voice — and beginning to write her own lyrics — by escaping her doomed marriage with Goffin and branching out on her own to begin a blockbuster solo career in 1971.
But if you read King's autobiography "A Natural Woman," you would know one of her most harrowing relationships was still a few years away. In the late '70s, King was married to a wannabe songwriter named Rick Evers, her third of four husbands.
In a chilling and moving account, King said Evers physically abused her during the marriage and even though she was one of the most successful recording artists in the world, she couldn't muster up the courage to leave. Finally, she did, shortly before Evers died of a drug overdose in 1978. "Beautiful: The Sequel" might be a much different and darker show.
That's not to say "Beautiful" is bereft of drama — albeit drama that isn't telling the whole story. Goffin and King's relationship crumbles in part because of his craving for other women. In the show, he has an affair with a character named Janelle Woods, a singer whom Goffin and King work with, but who is fictional.
Goffin, however, did have an affair with a woman he and King wrote for in the 1960s. Her name was Earl-Jean McCrea Reavis, a member of the girl group The Cookies.
The show also won't tell you that Goffin and Reavis had a daughter together while they and King were still working together, as author Sheila Weller said in her book "Girls Like Us," which chronicles the lives of King, Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon.
But the essence stays true to King and Goffin's relationship. Goffin cheated, multiple times, and had problems with substance abuse. Eventually, King reached her point of no return.
The show doesn't mention King had put out two albums prior to "Tapestry," one called "Now That Everything's Been Said" with a group she formed called The City, and her first solo effort, "Writer," which initially flopped.
Instead, King decides to move to Los Angeles in "Beautiful" and within about two scenes, she has won four Grammys for "Tapestry." The show also won't tell you that by the time "Tapestry" became a best-seller, King was married to her second husband, bassist Charlie Larkey. You leave the show with the impression King was single around that time. It also won't tell you that Goffin and King actually continued writing songs together after their divorce. Several of King's albums after "Tapestry" feature songs co-written by Goffin.
There are also some small inaccuracies only a dork like me will catch. In one scene, Goffin and King say their song "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," as recorded by The Shirelles, was No. 1 on the charts for five weeks. I, being the nerd I am, know it was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks.
And "Beautiful" portrays King as having written one of the early musical numbers "It Might As Well Rain Until September" all by herself, but in truth Goffin wrote the lyrics to that one too. Ditto for "It's Too Late," a song King wrote with Toni Stern, who provided the lyrics.
I have my quibbles with the accuracy of the show, like any dweeb who is a big fan of a book that gets turned into a movie.
But I still keep coming back because the show is unflinching in portraying the humanity of King and how she became the great writer she was, a writer whose mind-boggling list of hits will leave you whistling each one as you exit the theater.
Each time I see it, I wait for that one moment, that goosebump-inducing moment when the stage gets quiet and King walks to her piano as Goffin is asleep on a couch nearby. He has just finished writing the lyrics to a song they need to present the next day.
    King plays a C-major chord.
    "Tonight you're mine, completely …"
The crowd gives an audible "Oh," as it recognizes "Will You Love Me Tomorrow."
And that's when I know they've found the same thing in King's music that I found back when I first heard "Tapestry."
That's one part of King's life the show gets right — and it's the most important part.
